Roll a d10

A d10 is a ten-sided die numbered 0–9 or 1–10, where a 0 counts as 10. Each result has an equal 10% (1 in 10) chance, and the average roll is 5.5. In D&D you roll a d10 for Eldritch Blast, Fire Bolt, heavy weapons and fighter hit dice, and two d10s make a d100.

Where you roll a d10 in D&D

Cantrips: Eldritch Blast and Fire Bolt both deal 1d10 damage per hit, and add another die at levels 5, 11 and 17. Hellish Rebuke deals 2d10 and Inflict Wounds deals 3d10 in the 2014 rules.

Weapons: Glaives, halberds, pikes and heavy crossbows deal 1d10. Versatile weapons such as the longsword, battleaxe and warhammer deal 1d10 when held in two hands instead of a d8.

Hit dice and percentile rolls: Fighters, paladins and rangers use a d10 hit die. Rolling two d10s, one for tens and one for ones, gives a number from 1 to 100; use the d100 roller for that.

Roll a d10 FAQ

Does a 0 on a d10 count as 10?

Yes. Most d10s are numbered 0 to 9, and a 0 is read as 10 when you roll the die on its own. When it is the ones die in a percentile roll, 0 stays 0 (and 00 plus 0 is read as 100).

What is the average roll on a d10?

The average roll on a d10 is 5.5, because the numbers 1 to 10 add up to 55 and 55 / 10 = 5.5.

What are the odds of rolling a 10 on a d10?

Each face of a fair d10 has a 10% (1 in 10) chance. Rolling 6 or higher is a 50% chance.

Which classes use a d10 hit die?

Fighter, paladin and ranger use a d10 hit die in both the 2014 and 2024 rules.

About this roller

DnD Dice Roller (dnddiceroller.org) rolls every die with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, and uses rejection sampling so every face is exactly equally likely. The 3D dice only animate a result that has already been decided this way; the physics never picks the number. Rolls happen on your device and are never sent to our server.
