Games that use 3 dice

Bunco: A party game played in six rounds, one for each number from 1 to 6. On your turn you roll three dice and score a point for every die that matches the round number. Rolling all three of the round number is a "Bunco," worth the most points, and it only happens 0.46% of the time (1 in 216). House rules for scoring vary, so agree on them first.

Sic Bo and Chuck-a-luck: These are betting games built around three dice. Players bet on totals, on a specific number appearing, or on a triple. Any triple comes up 1 time in 36 (2.78%), while a specific triple like three 4s is 1 in 216. They make good practice for seeing how three dice behave.

Classroom and party games: Three dice are popular for math games where kids add, subtract or multiply the dice to hit a target number, and for drinking or party games where a pair or triple triggers a rule. For D&D, the 3d6 roller is the same roll in dice notation, with ability score odds.

About this roller

DnD Dice Roller (dnddiceroller.org) rolls every die with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, and uses rejection sampling so every face is exactly equally likely. The 3D dice only animate a result that has already been decided this way; the physics never picks the number. Rolls happen on your device and are never sent to our server.
