Roll a d1000
A d1000 roll gives a random whole number from 1 to 1000, with each result having a 0.1% (1 in 1000) chance and an average of 500.5. No practical thousand-sided die exists, so players roll three d10s for the hundreds, tens and ones digits. Press Roll below to get a d1000 result instantly.

How to roll a d1000 and what it is for
Roll it with three d10s: Pick three d10s of different colors and decide before rolling which one is the hundreds, which is the tens and which is the ones. Read them in order, so 4, 0, 7 is 407. A roll of 0, 0, 0 counts as 1000. It works the same way as percentile dice, just with one more digit.
Huge random tables: The d1000 shines for tables too long for a d100: hundreds of trinkets, NPC names, tavern rumors, magic item quirks or wandering encounters. Each entry gets an equal 0.1% chance, so players rarely see a repeat.
Rare events and tiebreakers: A d1000 is good for anything that should almost never happen, such as a 1 in 1000 curse trigger or a legendary find, and for picking a fair random number in a giveaway or a large group. For smaller ranges, the d100 roller is quicker.
Roll a d1000 FAQ
How do you roll a d1000 with d10s?
Roll three d10s, assigning one to the hundreds, one to the tens and one to the ones before you roll. Read the digits in that order. A result of 000 is read as 1000.
What is the average roll on a d1000?
The average roll on a d1000 is 500.5, the midpoint between 1 and 1000.
Is there a real 1000-sided die?
Not a practical one. A die with that many faces would roll almost like a ball and be very hard to read, which is why players use three d10s or an online roller.
What are the odds of rolling 1000 on a d1000?
Exactly 0.1%, or 1 in 1000. Every number from 1 to 1000 has the same chance.

About this roller
DnD Dice Roller (dnddiceroller.org) rolls every die with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, and uses rejection sampling so every face is exactly equally likely. The 3D dice only animate a result that has already been decided this way; the physics never picks the number. Rolls happen on your device and are never sent to our server.
