When you roll 10 dice at once

Dice pools: Some tabletop RPGs skip adding dice and instead count successes: every die that shows a 5 or 6 is a hit. With ten dice and a 1 in 3 chance per die, you average 3.33 hits. You get at least 3 hits 70.09% of the time, at least 5 hits 21.31% of the time, and at least 7 hits only 1.97% of the time. Count the 5s and 6s in the results above.

Big totals: Added up, ten dice cluster tightly around 35, the most likely total at 7.27%. A total between 30 and 40 comes up 68.7% of the time, so a 10d6 roll is far more predictable than a single die. In D&D notation this roll is written 10d6; see dice notation for how to read it, or use the dice calculator to add a bonus.

Probability demos: Ten dice are a quick way to show a class how often each face appears. Roll a few times and tally the 1s through 6s: each face should land about 1 time in 6, but a single roll of ten rarely splits evenly. There is a 16.15% chance that no die shows a 6 at all.

About this roller

DnD Dice Roller (dnddiceroller.org) rolls every die with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, and uses rejection sampling so every face is exactly equally likely. The 3D dice only animate a result that has already been decided this way; the physics never picks the number. Rolls happen on your device and are never sent to our server.
