Where you roll 2d12 in D&D
Greataxe critical hits: The greataxe deals 1d12 slashing, and a critical hit doubles the damage dice, so a crit is 2d12 + your Strength modifier. With +3 Strength that averages 16. In the 2014 rules, a half-orc's Savage Attacks adds one more weapon die on a crit (3d12). Barbarians love the greataxe for exactly this reason: one big die gets the most out of every crit. More on how crits work in critical hits in 5e.
Poison Spray: Poison Spray uses a d12, the biggest die of any common damage cantrip, and reaches 2d12 at level 5 (13 on average). The two editions resolve it differently. In 2014 it has a 10-foot range and the target makes a Constitution save; in 2024 it is a ranged spell attack out to 30 feet. Either way, a lot of monsters resist or are immune to poison, so keep a second cantrip ready.
Monsters: In the 2024 stat blocks, the bulette bites twice per turn for 2d12 + 4 each (17 on average), and a charging triceratops gores for 2d12 + 6 plus an extra 2d8. A frost giant's axe deals 2d12 + 6 slashing plus 2d8 cold. On 2d12 you roll 20 or more 10.42% of the time, 13 or more 54.17% of the time, and a 24 only 0.69% (1 in 144).

About this roller
DnD Dice Roller (dnddiceroller.org) rolls every die with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, and uses rejection sampling so every face is exactly equally likely. The 3D dice only animate a result that has already been decided this way; the physics never picks the number. Rolls happen on your device and are never sent to our server.
