Where you roll 8d6 in D&D
Fireball: Fireball is a 3rd-level spell that explodes in a 20-foot-radius sphere. Every creature in the area makes a Dexterity saving throw, taking 8d6 fire damage on a failure or half as much on a success. Roll once and apply the same total to every target. Each slot level above 3rd adds 1d6, so a 4th-level Fireball is 9d6 (average 31.5).
Lightning Bolt: Lightning Bolt is also 3rd level and also deals 8d6, but as lightning damage in a 100-foot line that is 5 feet wide. The same Dexterity save for half applies, and it scales by 1d6 per slot level above 3rd. The line shape is better for enemies lined up in a corridor.
What to expect: Eight dice make a tight bell curve. 28 is the most likely total at 8.09%, you roll 28 or more 54.05% of the time, and 35 or more only 9.07% of the time. A roll of 20 or lower happens just 6.07% of the time, so Fireball damage is very reliable.

About this roller
DnD Dice Roller (dnddiceroller.org) rolls every die with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, and uses rejection sampling so every face is exactly equally likely. The 3D dice only animate a result that has already been decided this way; the physics never picks the number. Rolls happen on your device and are never sent to our server.
