Where you roll 3d10 in D&D

Call Lightning: This 3rd-level druid spell summons a storm cloud for up to 10 minutes of concentration. Each time you call a bolt, every creature within 5 feet of the point you pick makes a Dexterity save, taking 3d10 lightning damage (16.5 on average) or half on a success. You can call another bolt on each later turn (an action in 2014, a Magic action in 2024), so over a long fight it outdamages a one-shot spell. Cast it outdoors during a real storm and every bolt gains 1d10, making it 4d10.

Inflict Wounds and cantrips: In the 2014 rules, Inflict Wounds was a melee spell attack for 3d10 necrotic, one of the biggest single hits a 1st-level caster could make, and a critical hit doubled it to 6d10. The 2024 version swaps the attack for a Constitution save and drops to 2d10, half on a success. At level 11, Fire Bolt and the 2024 Chill Touch reach 3d10 per hit.

Monsters: In the 2024 stat blocks, a ghost's Withering Touch deals 3d10 + 3 necrotic (19 on average), the giant ape punches twice for 3d10 + 6 each, and a bronze dragon wyrmling's Lightning Breath is 3d10 in a 40-foot line. 3d10 is also a common hit dice total: the 2024 dire wolf has 3d10 + 6 hit points (22). On 3d10 you roll 20 or more 28.3% of the time and 25 or more just 5.6%.

About this roller

DnD Dice Roller (dnddiceroller.org) rolls every die with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, and uses rejection sampling so every face is exactly equally likely. The 3D dice only animate a result that has already been decided this way; the physics never picks the number. Rolls happen on your device and are never sent to our server.
