How 4d6 drop lowest works
Step by step: Roll four d6s, set aside the single lowest die (if two dice tie for lowest, drop only one of them), and add the remaining three. Do this six times to get six ability scores, then assign them to Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma.
Why drop the lowest? Plain 3d6 averages 10.5, which makes characters feel average. Dropping the lowest of four dice pushes the average up to about 12.24 and makes 13 the single most likely score, so heroes come out a little above ordinary people.
Roll a whole set: The stat roller rolls all six scores at once, shows the modifiers, and compares the result to the standard array and point buy. Read the full guide: How to roll stats in D&D 5e.

About this roller
DnD Dice Roller (dnddiceroller.org) rolls every die with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, and uses rejection sampling so every face is exactly equally likely. The 3D dice only animate a result that has already been decided this way; the physics never picks the number. Rolls happen on your device and are never sent to our server.
