How to run the goblin warrior

Hide, then shoot: The 2024 goblin is built around one loop. Use Nimble Escape to Hide behind cover (Stealth +6), then fire the shortbow with advantage from hiding. Against AC 15 that lifts its hit chance from 50% to 75% and the damage from 5.5 to 8, so expected damage per shot more than doubles, from 2.75 to 6.

Never stand still: In melee, a goblin stabs and then Disengages for free, so it never eats an opportunity attack. Use that to pull fighters out of position, or to lure the party into a trap or a second group of archers. Goblins should fight dirty and run when the boss falls.

How players win: Light the room, deny cover and close the distance. A goblin that can't hide never gets its bonus 1d4, and 10 hit points means any solid hit nearly kills it. Area spells are brutal: a shatter or burning hands across three goblins can end a fight. Mix them with a goblin boss and use the encounter calculator to scale the warband.
